About My Practice
I see my role as an ‘awareness facilitator’ – my job is to assist people to understand themselves and their experiences on many different levels.
Not all therapy is about digging into the past or delving into feelings. You may simply feel you want to talk things through with a supportive and objective person, or perhaps you want to explore the meaning of a dream, body symptom, traumatic event or troublesome life pattern. Then again, you might be looking for new ideas, strategies or professional advice to help resolve an issue you are currently facing. Many people these days relate to being on a spiritual journey and want someone to help guide them through the challenges on that path.
I believe that therapy should be in tune with you and where you want to go, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. You will find I listen closely to your needs and goals, and that I follow your feedback to ensure we are on the track that is most beneficial to you. Implicit in my practice is a belief that the solutions we need are contained within the problems themselves.
I believe counselling is important because we too often live with problems that we can change through simple awareness, attention and acceptance.

David Warmington

David has worked for 6 years as a drug and alcohol counsellor, and also has 6 years experience working in mental health. He has completed a Master of Clinical Psychology degree at Griffith University, Gold Coast.

He is able to work with a broad range of client issues and clinical disorders, and is particularly experienced in treating addictions, depression and anxiety. David is a fully registered psychologist and Medicare provider, and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society.

About my therapeutic approach:
I believe that the starting place for all good therapy is building trust with the client, and I aim to provide a nurturing space where clients can feel safe to explore challenges. As well as examining where clients have difficulties, it is also important to look at where they can build on successes, and I am inspired by the growing Positive Psychology movement in this direction. My work is centred on a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Therapy. I like to tailor my approach to suit the client, as I find that each individual responds uniquely to various approaches. Underlying all my work is a foundation of client-centred support, in tandem with motivational challenge and goal-setting.

Jitindriya (aka Loraine Keats) – Psychotherapist
MA Budd.Psych. UK

Jitindriya offers a mindfulness-based form of psychotherapy with her clients which brings the Wisdom and Compassion of Buddhism together with the Insights of Western Psychology.
She was a Buddhist nun for 17 years, studying meditation and Buddhist Psychology, and has trained in Core-Process Psychotherapy (a Buddhist-based form of psychotherapy) with the Karuna Institute in the UK, gaining an MA in Buddhist Psychotherapy Practice from Middlesex University.

Buddhist Psychotherapy is a depth psychotherapy practice that engages and explores the body-mind connection in present time. One develops a full awareness of how suffering arises in our own experience and how we can free ourselves from painful and destructive patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour. As trust and skill is developed in the therapeutic relationship deep releases can occur and new energy and insight can arise as a matter of course.
This form of therapy is a holistic and integrated approach which includes the spiritual dimension of life. It acknowledges the inherently free and brilliant sanity at the core of our being – our Buddha-nature – no matter what mental or emotional conditions we may be experiencing. It is our work together in therapy to come to realise this truth more fully, thus allowing a more engaged, spacious and insightful life to emerge right where we are.
Jitindriya engages in both short and long term therapy, depending on the clients’ needs and wishes. This way of therapy can help people work through deep issues or emotional disturbance arising and affecting their lives. It can also be a facilitated means of self-enquiry and self-development or used to support and guide a spiritual enquiry. Jitindriya is also available to give one-on-one meditation guidance and mentoring.
